Food Photography | Lattice Top Pie Crust

If there’s anyone out there that has been loyal enough to have kept up with my blog from the beginning, you’ve seen the few photographs I’ve taken of my extremely presentable and high end restaurant worthy barely editable looking dishes. I now bring you all some photos from one of my most recent dishes: Lattice Top Cherry Pie! And yes I know you all want to congratulate me for picking something so original.

This time I thought I would include the recipe as well. So here’s what you’ll need:

Any good pie crust recipe. Here’s what mind consisted of.

• 1/4 cup of ice water
• 1 teaspoon of salt
• 2 cups of all-purpose-flour
• 1 cup of vegetable shortening

Cherry Pie Filling. I was lazy and bought mine from Superstore.

Dividing the dough in two I used half of it to line the bottom of the pie sheet and the other half I made the lattice crust by weaving strips of dough on top.

After you’re done stick it in a preheated 375 degree oven for about an hour. Here were the results of mine. I just want to say that it was my first time making pie with a lattice top so I know that it looks kinda sloppy, but I THINK it turned out alright.

Something New | Drinks & Tapas from Pearl Drops

I had my first chance the other day to do some professional food & beverage photography for Pearl Drops Tea House! It stands out from other bubble tea shops by offering what one might call “high end bubble-tea”. I was given the pleasure of sampling some of the drinks I took some pictures of:

Pearl Drops I

Bubble Tea Martini

Bubble Tea Drink

Food ShotOh yes,  they serve tapas too. I had to resist the urge the entire time I was shooting these to not COMPLETELY DEVOUR them. That was rather difficult and I don’t know how food photographers put up with it.

Food Photography | Eggs Benedicts!

I think the last time I blogged about food was when I made home made japadogs a while back. Today I thought I’d try something different and make egg benedicts! If you haven’t had these yet, you can find them for breakfast (or anytime at Denny’s) at just about any western style restaurant such as IHOP. Essentially the two main parts that make it up are hollandaise sauce and poached eggs on top of an english muffin.

I watched several different youtube videos and received some pointers from a friend of mine on how to proceed and below were the results.

Eggs Benedict-1

Eggs Benedict-2

Eggs Benedict-3

Eggs Benedict-4

Eggs Benedict-5

Eggs Benedict-6

Being my first time making these, I can’t say that I got it right. The major crux this time was the fact that I added WAY too much lemon juice and to the hollandaise sauce so that alone killed it. I also didn’t get the poached eggs exactly the way I wanted them, especially the one where you can see the egg yolk. Oh well, I’ll nail it next time.
